Why YBE?
YBE Magazine (Young Black Experience) is dedicated to the empowerment of African-American youth by encouraging them to succeed despite any obstacles they face and teaching them to be responsible in all aspects of life. YBE is the first magazine that focuses on the issues dealt with by young African-Americans, particularly males.
Within mass media, numerous negative stereotypical messages bombard our youth, limiting their potential and dictating their lifestyles. Many urban magazines present an unrealistic, materialistic, and stereotypic view of what success is. YBE means to counteract this by providing a positive message in presenting real people who have achieved success to serve as guides for young people to be personally and financially responsible and to find their own success. And we do it by directly engaging our readers, rather than preaching or lecturing to them.
YBE began publishing on June 1, 2005 with sections on Life, Career, Education, Money, Politics, Health, Inspiration, and Opinion/Editorial. Now in its fifth year, YBE boasts an average of 10,000 visitors monthly with readership continually increasing.
